King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is the King of Saudi Arabia, having ascended to the throne on January 23, 2015, following the death of his half-brother, King Abdullah. Born on December 31, 1935, in Riyadh, Salman has played a significant role in the administration of Saudi Arabia for many decades.
Before becoming king, Salman served as the Governor of Riyadh Province for 48 years, from 1963 to 2011. He was appointed as the Minister of Defense in 2011 and later became the Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister in 2012.
King Salman's reign has seen significant reforms under the Vision 2030 initiative, aimed at diversifying the Saudi economy away from oil dependency and modernizing various sectors, including social and cultural aspects. His son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (often referred to as MBS), has been a central figure in driving these reforms.
